UPDATE: Counter steps bill provides no restrictions for US firms, people
(Adds last paragraph)
MOSCOW, Apr 28 (PRIME) – A bill on counter sanctions against the U.S. is of a framework character, all practical measures will be defined by the government, Deputy Head of the economic committee of the Federation Council, parliament’s upper house, Vyacheslav Timchenko told PRIME on Saturday.
“The bill envisages no specific restrictions against U.S. companies or individuals. This is a framework document,” he said.
On April 6, the U.S. imposed sanctions against 38 Russian tycoons, officials and companies. A bill on new countersanctions was submitted to the State Duma, parliament’s lower house, on April 13.
Timchenko is sure that the counter sanctions will not result in a mass departure of U.S. companies from Russia’s market.
Head of the Federation Council’s temporary commission on protection of national sovereignty Andrei Klimov endorsed Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev’s initiative to impose sanctions against U.S. companies and individuals.
“I am sure all instruments must be used here,” he said.
The Federation Council plans to assess each of 16 counter steps proposed by the State Duma primarily from the point of view of their possible impact on Russia’s companies.
